General description
Rift valley fever (RVF) virus is a mosquito-borne RNA virus. It is known to cause acute febrile disease in humans and livestock in Africa. This virus has also been associated with enzootic hepatitis in sheep. RVF possesses three single-stranded RNA segments, namely, the S, M and L segments, having a length of 11.9kb. The S segment codes for two proteins, the M segment codes for four proteins and the L segment codes for a viral polymerase.
Immunogen
Antibody was raised against a 16 amino acid peptide near the amino terminus of the RVF virus Polymerase.
